*Auto Accidents: Injuries on Texas roadways occur with alarming frequency. As reported in the Austin American Statesman on January 26, 2009, there were 95 fatalities from car accidents in Travis County in 2008, up slightly from 2007, according to law enforcement records. On roads within the City of Austin, there were 59 deaths for auto accidents last year. Investigators saw a rise in motorcycle-related accident deaths, however, spurred by a summer of nearly $4-per-gallon gas. The number of motorcycle accident deaths rose from 15 in 2007 to 22 in 2008. Eighteen of those accident deaths were within Austin city limits. Six of those killed wore helmets. Sixteen were drivers, and two were passengers.
The number of accident deaths of pedestrians and bicyclists declined. There were 25 pedestrians killed in 2007, and 18 in 2008. The number of bicyclists killed fell to one last year from two the year before.
Mr. Taylor routinely prosecutes cases against negligent drivers who fail to follow the rules of the road. He makes sure that the insurance companies that insure these negligent drivers make his clients whole for the injuries they cause.

18 Wheeler Truck Accidents: According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there were 380,000 traffic accidents involving large trucks (i.e. those with a gross vehicle weight rating above 10,000 pounds) in the United States in 2008. A total of 4,229 people died in large truck accidents, which accounted for 11% of all traffic deaths in 2008. An additional 90,000 people were injured in those big rig truck wrecks.
Most of the fatal crashes involving big trucks occurred in rural areas (64%), during the daytime (67%), and during a weekday (80%). Nearly one fourth (24%) of all large truck drivers involved in fatal crashes in 2008 had at least one prior speeding conviction, compared with 18% of all passenger car drivers involved in fatal wrecks.
Basic laws of physics dictate when a 80,000 lb. truck impacts a 4,000 to 6,000 lb. car, truck or SUV at significant speed, someone in the smaller vehicle is likely to receive serious injuries or be killed. Statistics from NHTSA confirm that point; of the fatalities reported in 2008, 74% were occupants of another vehicle.
An 18 Wheeler's incredible potential for harm requires truckers and trucking companies to exercise commensurate responsibility. Unfortunately, the trucking industry and its drivers often put expediency and profitability over responsibility with disastrous consequences for the motoring public. That's where this law firm comes in. Mr. Taylor prosecutes these cases with the aim of holding trucking companies to full account for their conduct. |
Drunk Driving Accidents: Drivers are considered to be legally drunk if their blood alcohol concentration (BAC) exceeds 0.08 grams per deciliter (g/dl). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 11,773 people were killed in drunk driving car accidents in the United States in 2008. Drunk driving car fatalities accounted for 32% of all traffic fatalities in 2008. This figure amounts to one drunk driving fatality every 45 minutes.
Driving while intoxicated is a crime. In Texas, a driver that causes serious bodily injury to someone while driving drunk has committed a felony (intoxication assault). Penalties for such conduct involve criminal penalties and prison time.
The criminal justice system does not always deal fully with the damages suffered by the victims of drunk drivers. That's the purpose of the civil lawsuits. Civil lawsuits can provide victims of drunk drivers with compensation for their medical expenses, lost wages, physical impairment, and physical pain and suffering involved in putting their life back together after such a traumatic experience. Texas law further permits, in appropriate cases, for drunk drivers to be punished in the form of an award of punitive damages. Punitive damages serve the public purpose of punishment and deterrence - serving as a warning to future drivers that such dangerous conduct will not be tolerated. This law firm fully prosecutes these cases to ensure that its clients receive a full measure of justice. |
